Formed in 2018, Monkie Mind bring a slice of California style melodic punk to the UK. Drawing inspiration from Green Day, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Offspring, Monkie Mind operate on a strong DIY ethos, building a devoted fanbase across the UK through constant gigging and strong songwriting.
Following their 2021 self-titled debut album, Monkie Mind’s Ignite marks an exciting new chapter showcasing new bassist David Randle, who joined long standing members Lee Wright (Vocals/Guitar) and Martin Paynton (Drums) in 2026 following the departure of Michael Olga Algar (The Toy Dolls).
“The goal has always been to make music with widespread appeal and songs that are super catchy without losing that raw, energetic punk edge,” says frontman Lee Wright. “Ignite encapsulates everything we love about melodic punk—big sing along choruses, tight rhythms, and pure energy.”
The track is accompanied by a high-octane music video filmed live at Glasgow’s iconic Bloc+ venue, capturing the raw intensity that has seen the band share stages with The Dickies (USA), China Drum, Random Hand, and Popes of Chillitown. Published by Wipe Out Publishing, Ignite leads a string of upcoming releases ahead of a full-length album in 2027.
