Newly remixed by J. Robbins at The Magpie Cage Recording Studio and remastered by Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio, the track reconnects the band with the producer who originally recorded Transmit Failure at Inner Ear Studios in 1998.
Formed in Tucson, Arizona, in 1996, Four Hundred Years emerged from the city’s hardcore scene before relocating to Richmond, Virginia. The four-piece—Daron Hollowell, Dave Jackson, Erin Housholder and Ash Bruce—developed a sound that stretched their hardcore roots into increasingly intricate and dynamic territory, balancing dissonance and aggression with melody and an intense political urgency.
That evolution crystallized on Transmit Failure. Written during a formative period for the band, the album captured their political convictions, emotional intensity and musical experimentation converging in tightly wound guitars, a taut rhythm section and raw dual vocals. Originally released by Lovitt Records, it became a defining statement for Four Hundred Years and a lasting document of the fiercely creative DIY hardcore community that shaped them.
The newly revisited title track brings that history into the present, giving longtime listeners a fresh perspective on the recording while introducing a new audience to the band’s volatile blend of precision, tension and conviction. Nearly three decades after its original release, “Transmit Failure” remains a forceful expression of the restless spirit at the heart of Four Hundred Years.
More than just a return to the band’s past, this release marks the first step in a larger project connecting past, present and future – revisiting the music that defined Four Hundred Years while opening the door to what comes next.
