Pressure Set came together through chance connections across the punk scene. Drummer Rob Burleson met guitarist Dom Brining (Bear Away) while touring with Denver’s SPELLS in 2024, and the two began trading demos remotely. When Burleson invited singer Daryl Wilson (The Bollweevils) to contribute lyrics, the project clicked immediately; they later brought in fellow Chicago punk veteran Simon Lamb (Methadones, Sludgeworth, Violets) on bass, rounding out the four-piece.
Pressure Set recorded entirely from home studios scattered around the globe, and despite the distance, the chemistry translated into a cohesive debut of “short, sharp blasts of high-energy punk rock” — drawing on influences from Gang of Four, Wipers, Hot Snakes, and MC5 alongside nods to The Descendents, Naked Raygun, Samiam, Meat Wave, and Idles.
For Wilson, the project pushed him to write from a different emotional register than his usual anger-driven approach, tackling themes of authenticity, communication breakdown, and social disconnection on tracks like rambunctious “Blood Gimmick” and album opener “Binge Watch On Mute.”
On the single, Wilson says: “The song is about when you find out it’s too late to make up for things you should have said. It builds up over time and it gets too heavy to have a true conversation with someone. So instead of taking the action to rectify the situation, you stay silent and let the ability to communicate fade away into silence.
You can sit next to a person and not say a word and still know exactly what they mean or who they are, while others just have a familiar stranger in their midst. When the ones with the stranger talk, it’s hollow or it’s meaningless, or it’s a violent outburst trying to protect the silence because they don’t really know how to communicate.”
The album features guest contributions from Mike Wiebe (Riverboat Gamblers, Drakulas) on “Panic Show,” Kryssie Ridolfi (Evil Engine) on “Assistant to the God of Thunder,” and Wilson’s daughter Genevieve on closer “Dream Factory.” The band describes itself as a fluid, collaborative project built on friendship and creative freedom, with plans to keep the revolving-door spirit alive for future releases.
“Hopefully it opens the door for more collaborations in the future,” says Wilson. “We want the dynamic to always be fun and exciting. And we want to let the music speak to each player and see what magic comes out.”
