It evokes visions and sensations that seem real, even when they exist only in our minds. Postman worked on this track for many years, returning to it again and again. Musically, it grew out of Postman’s love for the sound of the 60s and for contemporary Brazilian music, particularly artists like Tim Bernardes and O Terno”
Phantasma is a term rooted in ancient Greek philosophy, referring to an image or apparition that takes shape before one’s eyes, without possessing a physical or material form. It can describe a memory returning as images and visions, or a dream that feels real yet constantly slips away.
Kostiantyn Pochtar, better known as Postman, began his musical odyssey in Kyiv, composing intimate “city folk” songs with just a guitar and harmonica. Over the years, Postman has ventured into uncharted musical territories. His new sonic landscapes, oscillating between melodic psychedelia and art pop, have grown richer and more complex, redefining traditional folk music and offering listeners a journey through spaces that are both familiar and entirely new.
His upcoming EP, Phantasma, set to be released on April 17, unfolds as a colorful and intimate journey lasting just under 14 minutes. It begins in South Wales with Cymru Reverie and leads the listener along the “paths of Ulysses,” beyond Mediterranean cliffs and dense forests, toward a nocturnal, ephemeral city that seems to exist only in the artist’s imagination. Postman works with the short format masterfully, shaping an intense yet deeply tender mini-album that organically, almost unnoticed, brings together different languages, musical eras, and cultural codes.
