Berlin-based psych post-punk band The Underground Youth release new single ‘O’ Evangeline’ featuring Sade Sanchez of L.A. Witch. Out digitally today with an accompanying video, ‘O’ Evangeline’ is a cut of dreamy psychedelic post-punk longing that lands following a string of recent German and Italy shows and ahead of upcoming tours in Australia and Greece.
On the new single, The Underground Youth’s Craig Dyer says: “Evangeline is one of the many beautiful souls around the world who are standing up to figures of oppression and those abusing positions of power. She is a figure of protest and this song is an ode to her and all those who share her stance. The track features Sade Sanchez from L.A. Witch and will serve as the first in a string of standalone singles to be released by The Underground Youth this year.”
Initially formed as a solo project by Blackpool-born, Berlin-based musician and author Craig Dyer in 2008 – now joined by drummer and visual artist Olya Dyer, guitarist Leonard Kaage and bassist Samira Zahidi – The Underground Youth have released twelve studio albums (most recently, last year’s ‘Décollage’) and 4 EPs, evolving a unique sound that has over the years ranged from cinematic lo-fi psychedelia and raw melancholic post-punk, through to gothic folk-noir and trip-hop-infused atmospherics. Throughout, they have maintained a devoted global following continuously built upon by the band’s extensive touring through Europe, North America and Asia (Dyer was interviewed recently in The Guardian discussing his experiences touring China). In April they will tick another continent off the list with their first ever Australian tour.
