Emo/post-hardcore band Drift return with their new single and music video, “Four Letters”.
Exploring love not as something romanticised but as intrusive and overwhelming, “Four Letters” leans into the chaos of miscommunication, the frustration of wanting to speak clearly while everything comes out wrong. It’s messy, volatile and emotionally exposed, capturing the tension between vulnerability and emotional overload.
The track began years ago as one of the band’s earliest riffs before being revisited and completely reshaped. What emerged is a dynamically layered release built around a vocally driven, anthemic chorus and a climactic final section that spirals into controlled chaos, a defining moment that showcases Drift’s evolving sound.
“We wanted to capture the feeling of wanting to say something but being completely unable to,” says vocalist Callum McCombie. “When you’re overwhelmed, everything gets misinterpreted.”
“Four Letters” marks a confident step forward for Drift, refining their emo and post-hardcore influences into something sharper and more emotionally direct. The accompanying music video visually mirrors the song’s intensity, further amplifying its themes of distortion and emotional weight.
