Highland punks Bratakus return with their powerful new single “Tokened” on Venn Records. Formed by sisters Brèagha and Onnagh Cuinn, the duo channel raw DIY energy into sharp critiques of the tokenism women face in the music industry.
The track calls out empty gestures, like being billed as “the token girl band” or relegated to side stages, while demanding recognition based on genuine artistry. Its video, created with participants of Girls Rock Glasgow, amplifies the message of empowerment and community, underscoring Bratakus’ commitment to grassroots activism.
Having toured as far as Japan and shared stages with The Hives, Bratakus are no strangers to fighting for space in male-dominated scenes. “Tokened” is a protest and a rallying cry, paving the way for their forthcoming debut album on Venn Records in 2026.
