Post-punk icons Chameleons return with Arctic Moon, their first full-length studio album in 24 years. Out now, the record features seven new songs, including the recent single “Saviours Are A Dangerous Thing” and a reimagined “Where Are You?” (2024 single). The slow-burning “David Bowie Takes My Hand” highlights the band’s willingness to push into longer, expansive compositions.
Though sonically distinct from their earlier albums, Arctic Moon retains the emotional depth and intensity that built their reputation. “There is an obvious maturity to the songwriting,” says frontman Mark Burgess. “We really wanted to forge something fresh while retaining that profound and imaginative quality we’re known for.”
The release follows a year of activity, including UK and US tours and a run with The Psychedelic Furs. Their performance at Milton Keynes’ Forever Now festival earned praise from The Guardian, which called Chameleons “Manchester’s ultimate cult band.”
With a legacy stretching back to 1983’s Script of the Bridge, an album still hailed as a masterpiece, Arctic Moon reaffirms Chameleons’ influence on bands like Oasis, Interpol, Editors, and White Lies. It’s a bold continuation of their story, bridging past and present with imagination intact.
