Bones Shredder Released New Single And Lyric Video

Bones Shredder, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Randy Moore, today shares new song “Pulling Teeth,” the darkly melodic third single off his forthcoming debut album Morbid Little Thing, due September 19 on Moore’s own Sunken Teeth Records.

Originally written in 2019 while Moore was living in Southern California, “Pulling Teeth” is the oldest song on the record, rescued from a long-shelved demo and reshaped with the perspective he’s gained in the years since. It’s tight and hooky, with lyrics that bite, hinting at the album’s thread of horror-tinged imagery while locking into the power-pop pulse that defines Morbid Little Thing.

“The song is about trying to navigate through a one-sided relationship,” says Moore. “Extending yourself, trying to appease the other person, while getting nothing in return. Originally, this song was for a band I was going to start before the pandemic happened. For one reason or another it didn’t pan out, leaving me with a couple of songs sitting on my laptop. I thought this song deserved a second chance and I’m happy to share it today.”

Recorded in a two-week sprint at District Recording Studio in San Jose with producer Henry Chadwick (Teens in Trouble), Morbid Little Thing blends Moore’s love of ’70s AM pop, punk grit, and horror-tinged imagery into tightly wound anthems. Though Bones Shredder is primarily a solo endeavor, Moore enlists brother Dylan Moore on drums, and Sim Castro and Nick O’Connor on keys.

For most of his musical career, Randy Moore has played a support role. The San Jose based guitarist dropped some shredding leads in Asian Man Records group Get Married before joining the solo projects of Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio), and later Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio, Blink-182).

But that all changed the moment he bumped fists with Rivers Cuomo. As a young musician, Moore had idolized Weezer. Now, he finally understood they were just people, too.

“It took away the legend status in the best way possible,” Moore says. “Cause it’s like, ‘oh, he’s just a guy who writes songs in his bedroom.’ They happen to be amazing, but he’s just a guy who writes songs and I am a guy who writes songs.”

For years, Moore had been sketching out song ideas and saving them on his phone as voice memos. After the unexpected meeting with Cuomo, he revisited the recordings with newfound inspiration. At that point, he ceased to be simply Randy Moore, and Bones Shredder was born.

Recorded over two weeks at District Recording Studio in San Jose, Morbid Little Thing was produced by Portland-based artist Henry Chadwick (with whom Moore had previously collaborated in Teens in Trouble). With an ear for classic AM harmonies, Chadwick helped infuse a strain of mid-century American pop into the mix. And though it is primarily a solo project, on Morbid Little Thing, Bones Shredder are rounded out by Randy’s brother Dylan Moore on drums, and Sim Castro and Nick O’Connor on keys.

Morbid Little Thing is the first release from Moore’s own Sunken Teeth Records. Intended as a home for his own work, Sunken Teeth promises plenty more morbid little things to come.
