IKI, a French experimental duo consisting of vocalist Isabelle Duthoit and drummer Anthony Laguerre, has released “IV,” the first track from their next self-titled album, set to be released on September 19, 2025 via Sérotine Records.
This IKI album is obviously organic. Isabelle Duthoit and Anthony Laguerre create a primary truth. Rough, powerful and explosive.
From the intimacy of whispers to the metronomic strikes and tribal screams. It’s a sonic surge, and the sounds blend together. In their incantatory ramifications, in their monodic scansions.
There are weary wars, but here it’s a war of love between the vocalist and the drummer. In this wordless drama, there’s nothing to understand, everything to feel and grasp. This is how IKI moves forward, with a generous narrative that leaves plenty of room for the audience.
IKI’s dramaturgy opens up the sound space as the throaty and heady voices are heard, and is squared off with percussion. It’s wonderful how the mastery and complicity of two artists can produce a maelstrom of sound, a fine, inexhaustible and singular narrative. A must-listen.
