Ska-Punk Veterans The Planet Smashers Return With New Single And Video “Things You Do”

The Planet Smashers return with “Things You Do,” the second single from their upcoming album On the Dancefloor, out August 22 on Stomp Records. Dropping August 8 alongside a new video, the track delivers everything fans have come to expect: big hooks, sharp horns, and the kind of bounce that turns a casual listen into a full-body groove. With a walking ska bassline that moves, drives, and shakes beneath melodic guitar chops and tight brass hits, “Things You Do” is a lean and memorable slice of ska punk at its best.

It’s one of the album’s catchiest cuts, channeling everything the Smashers have honed over the years into a punchy three-minute blast. The track is tight, upbeat, and unpretentious, the kind of thing that hits hardest when played loud. Like much of On the Dancefloor, it was written with the band’s famously wild live shows in mind: sweaty, horn-laced, and full of dancing bodies from the first note to the last.

Now three decades deep, The Planet Smashers show no signs of letting up. Since forming in Montreal in 1994, they’ve remained one of the most enduring and beloved acts in the global ska-punk scene. With over 30 million streams, hundreds of thousands of video views, and a touring history that spans North America, Europe, and Japan, the band has weathered every wave of the genre by sticking to what they do best. Founding frontman Matt Collyer also co-founded Stomp Records, helping build a platform for countless Canadian alt and punk acts along the way.

On the Dancefloor is their tenth studio album and one of their most collaborative efforts to date. The record features 13 tracks that swing from love songs to protest anthems to late-night party starters, all packed with self-deprecating wit, offbeat charm, and undeniable energy. Ska legends Neville Staple (The Specials), Charley “Aitch” Bembridge (The Selecter), and Sara Johnston (Bran Van 3000) all appear on the album, adding layers of history and style without ever slowing the tempo. Whether you’re a long-time skanker or a curious newcomer, The Planet Smashers are here for you. With their trademark mix of brass-blasted joy and punk grit, “Things You Do” is more than just another single. It’s proof that ska punk is still alive, still fun, and still swinging for the heart.
