Rumkicks is a groundbreaking, all-female punk band from Seoul, South Korea. Formed in 2018 by guitarist and vocalist Jung Yeawon, the group is known for their energetic performances, edgy sound, and unabashed social commentary. Their music blends pogo punk and pop punk influences with a distinct Korean sensibility, a style they describe as “post-Joseon punk.”
The band’s lyrics address topics such as gender discrimination, mental health, and online harassment. Notable tracks include “Don’t Touch My Head,” inspired by a personal boundary violation, and “Punk is Nowhere,” a response to online criticism that labels them “fashion punks.” Her 2022 single “Proud of Madness” is a mental health anthem that also features members of the Korean punk band 18Fevers.
Rumkicks has gained international recognition, performing at major festivals such as the UK’s Rebellion Festival in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2023, they released their debut album, Born Rude, followed by their second album, Hit a Nerve (逆鱗), in April 2025. The band is currently signed to Austria’s SBÄM Records and Korea’s Steel Face Records.
In 2025, Rumkicks embarked on an extensive Asian tour, performing in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. “They will continue their global presence with a European tour, sharing the stage with punk legends such as the Sex Pistols and GBH.” – Unite Asia
With their outspoken energy and commitment to challenging societal norms, Rumkicks are a powerful voice in the global punk scene.
