The Copyrights are back with a brand-new EP, New Ghosts, dropping October 18th—proof that these veterans are far from done. This release marks a triumphant return for the Illinois quartet, and if their latest single, “In There Somewhere,” is any indication, New Ghosts is set to be a standout in their already impressive discography. Formed in 2002 in the heart of Illinois, The Copyrights have been a driving force in the pop-punk scene for over two decades. With their infectious melodies and high-energy performances, they’ve cultivated a dedicated fanbase and become a beloved part of the music community.

Their journey began in Carbondale, Illinois, where a group of friends with a shared love for punk rock decided to start a band. They quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic live shows and tight musicianship, which translated into their debut album, We Didn’t Come Here to Die, released in 2003. This raw, energetic debut captured the spirit of the band and laid the groundwork for what was to come. Building on the momentum of their debut, The Copyrights followed up with Mutiny Pop in 2006, an album that showcased their ability to blend catchy hooks with lyrical wit. The band’s relentless touring schedule helped them connect with fans across the world, and their work ethic paid off with the release of Make Sound in 2007, a record that solidified their place in the pop-punk landscape.

By the time Learn the Hard Way and North Sentinel Island were released, The Copyrights had established themselves as one of the genre’s most reliable and beloved acts. Their sound had matured, but they never lost the energy and attitude that made them stand out in the first place. In 2012, they took a significant step forward by teaming up with the iconic Fat Wreck Chords, a label known for supporting some of the best punk bands in the world. Their first release on the label was the No Knocks EP, followed by the full-length album Report. These records further cemented their status in the pop-punk world, showcasing a band that could evolve without losing its identity.

With New Ghosts, they’re poised to add another bold chapter to their story. The new material not only reflects their growth as musicians but also their ability to stay relevant in a constantly changing musical landscape. Catch The Copyrights live this October at The Fest in Gainesville, Florida, with more tour dates on the horizon. As they gear up to release New Ghosts, they are proving once again why they’re a beloved mainstay in the punk scene, and their journey is far from over.
