Ana Ćurčin, a singer-songwriter from Belgrade, has been creating soulful and dreamy music for more than ten years. Marko Nastić has been a DJ superstar and an adventurous producer for over two decades, and here they are at a completely new beginning on a joint project called Amnasti.

“The project started quite spontaneously and unexpectedly. I heard Ana at her concert and invited her to be a guest on one of my songs, and soon there was an option to include that song on the release with a remix that was supposed to be done by Matthew Herbert. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but working together in the studio brought us closer. We liked the sound of it, so we continued jamming. It was interesting and challenging to get out of our comfort zone and explore new sounds,” says Marko Nastić.

“It Took Me So Long” is an atypical collection of songs of (different) electronic music with rich layers of sound, noise, and beats and, above that, Ana’s lyrics about love, loneliness, family, decision-making, growing up… The songs equally rely on the eighties and nineties but also the beginning of the 2000s in their structure, with numerous interesting arrangement solutions and improvisations. The album contains eight songs, and in addition to the first single (“It Took Me So Long”), there are “Protect Me,” “We Said Everything Else,” “Wait,” “Darling,” “Smiling,” “Let’s Go Out,” and “Submit.”

“If I dive into my digital archive, the working files appear as far back as 2016, when Marko and I spontaneously sat down and started exchanging ideas and sketches of songs. Although the pace of work was not very helpful, the songs spent a decent period of time with us and matured over time. If this album had been ready in 2017, it certainly wouldn’t have been like this, so it was unconsciously waiting for this moment to get its final shape. For me, working with Marko is a complete displacement from the “comfort zone,” both in terms of the way of working on the songs and in general in the musical sense. This was an exciting field for me to experiment and open up, to create songs, emotions, and stories within a completely different expression, with a completely different approach to work,” Ana Ćurčin explains the genesis of Amnasti songs.

Along with Ana and Marko, Denis Beganović (keyboards and bass) made a great contribution in creating the groove and atmosphere; legendary jazz pianist Vasil Hadhimanov is the co-author of the mystical song “Wait” (he also played the piano); the powerful “Darling” could be an ideal song for the second single; and “Smiling” even before the release of the album became a favourite of numerous colleagues and friends who had the opportunity to hear the songs while they were being created.
