Spyres Announce “Karaoke Sellout” EP; Release New Single “The Thing”

Glasgow four-piece Spyres are today announcing their new EP Karaoke Sellout for release on 24th November. Following the previously released ‘Sleep Forever’ and ‘Money’, new cut ‘The Thing’ is yet another galloping indie-pop earworm that continues to mark Spyres out as a band with considerable song writing smarts. Upcoming EP Karaoke Sellout guarantees to be fulfil all of their early promise.

Fast becoming known for their soaring melodies and inventive outlook, on new single ‘The Thing’ Spyres bring forth a brisk sugar-rush attack that joins direct song writing with addictive ping-ponging, call-and-response vocals. It’s a song that revels in ambiguity, the unknowable, and the things you can’t quite find the right words for. The band explains:

“‘The Thing’ just speaks for itself. When those words were brought up in a writing session, we thought there were so many avenues to go down and so much it could be about hence the extensive lyrics in the chorus and bridge. We never actually come to a conclusion of who or what The Thing is as we wanted to give it a real edge and leave the listener wanting to know more.”

Spyres have racked up over two million streams on Spotify alone with break-out singles Otherside, Fake ID and I Don’t Care, all receiving an incredible outpouring of radio support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Radio X’s John Kennedy, BBC Introducing Scotland’s Phoebe I-H and Vic Galloway. The reaction to the band has been mirrored in press with fevered endorsements from Alt Press, DORK, Gigwise, Kerrang!, The Scottish Sun, Daily Record, Tenement TV, Punktastic and Distorted Sound at a glance.

Making a name for themselves on stage, Spyres supporting credentials include The Jesus And Mary Chain, Nothing But Thieves, The Snuts, Lauran Hibberd and The Murder Capital to name a few. In February 2023 they played their biggest sold-out show to date in front of 600 fans at St Luke’s in Glasgow.

In spite of the pandemic, Spyres made serious ground in the live space in their own right. Their headline show at Glasgow’s King Tuts on the Summer Nights programme sold-out in less than 24 hours of the on-sale date, and months later, the band sold-out London’s Old Blue Last, Glasgow’s Stereo and Edinburgh’s Mash House. In addition to this, Spyres made their debut at a number of major festivals; TRNSMT, Neighbourhood, Live At Leeds, including a headline slot on the This Feeling stage at Isle Of Wight Festival.
