Kinobe Released New Single & Video “Falling Star”

Kinobe will be releasing their latest single and video, ‘Falling Star’, on the 14th of July via the SGKL imprint. The single is the first to be shared from their forthcoming album Over The Horizon, slated for release on the 4th of August. Both the single and album were mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, Coldplay, to name a handful) at the renowned Abbey Road Studios.

With over 40 million streams on Spotify alone, Kinobe has previously earned support from tastemaker publications Mixmag, DJ Mag, Sputnik Music, and Hotpress Magazine and has been featured in Britain’s established digital broadsheets The Guardian and The Independent. Their music has aired on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 – The 6 Mix with Nemone as well as Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2. Notably, they have been featured numerous times in the CD collections and Youtube channel of the iconic Chill-music brand Café del Mar.

From the UK, based in Perth, Australia, Kinobe was formed in West London in 1998 by childhood friends Julius Waters and Mark “Blackie” Blackburn after Waters’ returned from Perth, Australia where he spent the greater part of his teens. With the same retro influences, from Soul to Funk, Blues, Jazz, and R&B, both multi-instrumentalists started composing together.

The band became the quintessential downtempo group with the release of their Engelbert Humperdinck-sampled single ‘Slip Into Something More Comfortable’, which became a Chillout staple and was licensed for innumerable compilations, soundtracks, and TV commercials. Despite various line-up changes over the years, founding member Julius Waters has continued to release Kinobe albums. 2023 sees them release their eighth studio album, Over The Horizon, written and recorded in a beach house in Western Australia.

Reminiscent of Air, Boozoo Bajou, and Bent, ‘Falling Star’ is a rich combination of crisp, strummed guitar and big, cinematic violins, that come together to form a sepia-toned soundtrack for a film of their own making, an accompanying music video. With soaring string lines, funky baselines, and sprinkled with stardust, it is classic Kinobe.

Kinobe describe the vision that inspired the track: “When I wrote this song I was imagining what might be playing on the jukebox while J.J. Cale, John Barry, and Percy Faith play poker in the bar of a formerly-splendid-but-now-run-down hotel somewhere down a forgotten desert highway as the colours of the sunset revive its faded glory.”
