The Nightmares Released New Single & Video “Cursed”

UK noir-pop band The Nightmares have shared their latest single “Cursed”. The song stems from their forthcoming album Séance, set for release April 7th on Equal Vision Records and Venn Records (UK/EU). Centered around recurring themes of death, love and mourning, The Nightmares create a dark, yet hopeful sound. For the twinkling “Cursed,” the band have put together a dark video inspired by Tim Burton movies, which you can view here now.

On the song and video vocalist Adam Parslow elaborates: “‘Cursed’ is a modern day ‘Jack & Sally’ love story. It is a song for anyone that has ever felt like life & luck are against you. It is our message to anyone that feels that way… we want you to know you are not alone. Keep your heart open, you never know where you might find love.

For the music video, we teamed up with the incredibly talented shadow puppeteer Tania Yager to bring our Tim Burton inspired vision to life using the ancient art of Shadow Play.”

Forming in 2018, The Nightmares are as inspired by shared musical passions – The Cure, Placebo, Interpol – as they are by the art of séances. Aptly, a life-changing experience with the other side inspired what would become the ten tracks on Séance. Recorded at Stompbox Studios in Wales with Richard Jackson (who produced, mixed, and mastered the record), the band met him for the first time the morning they entered the studio and it seemed like a fateful match. The result is an infectious and powerful debut album, conveying a message of paranormal love and supernatural fear.

On their debut album, bassist Benjamin T. Mainwaring states: “Séance is a record born out of a shared love of the macabre… a longing to express the darker thoughts and deeper emotions of life. Channeled through the practice of attempted communication with spirits from beyond this world. We started to dip our toes into the world of the seance, and the experiences we went through would inform the writing of the record.

I am totally convinced that what happened in these experiments were real. And they have stuck with me. I have nothing but respect for the spirits and I understand the gravity and weight that comes with communication with other worlds. It is not to be taken lightly.”

Having already played tours and supported acts like Holding Absence, Casey, Tiger Army and Salem, the band have been able to create a haunting and memorable live show. Fans can catch the band performing cuts from the album and previous works in the UK this April on tour with Miss Vincent, dates below.
