The Devil Wears Prada – Color Decay (Solid State Records)

Metalcore heavyweights The Devil Wears Prada will be releasing their brand new album tomorrow, September 16th, via Solid State Records. The label was kind around to send us the album for review, so you could get a sneak peek into the material ahead of the release date. Color Decay is their eighth full-length release. Both the band and record label heavily promoted this album with Sacrifice, Watchtower, Salt, Time, and Broken, five excellent introductory singles. These compositions serve as more than perfect examples of how Color Decay resonates with sheer power. However, it seems that the remainder of the album sounds even better.

Color Decay consists of twelve excellent metalcore compositions capable of tearing everything in the broader radius. The Devil Wears Prada invested blood, sweat, and tears into this material, and the quality is vividly hearable from scratch to finish. It’s also good to mention this material carries many innovations that will satisfy the cravings of the potential new admirers but also retain the interest of the old, die-hard fans of the band. Maybe some gatekeepers will be disappointed by these innovations, but the changes and innovations are necessary to keep listeners motivated. The Devil Wears Prada gradually adjusted, improved, and shaped their sound over the years, so after comparing Color Decay with the remainder of their discography, you’ll realize this isn’t a drastic change in sound, but just a couple of tweaks here and there.

Color Decay carries something for everyone. You’ll be blown away by the heavy riffs, progressive chord progressions, melodies, harmonies, themes, ambiances, massive low-end tones, and exceptional drumming performance that keeps all these orchestrations in line. Each number possesses so many complex segments that demand your utmost attention while listening. The thick layer of various electronic, synth, and digital samples and maneuvers unquestionably contribute to the album’s complexity. At the same time, the exceptional vocal performance provides another layer of aggression over the top. The rhythm and lead guitar duel for dominance from scratch to finish, while the bass guitar delivers low-end tones that contribute to the massive output of the entire band. Nothing would sound so profoundly dynamic without a mindblowing drumming performance built upon progressive rhythmic sequences, clever accentuations, and hectic drum fills. Color Decay is an ultimate demonstration of power you need to hear. Head to Solid State Records for more information about ordering this metalcore gem.
