The Drowns Releases Video For Lunatics

Seattle rockers THE DROWNS released the video for “Lunatics,” the title track to their new EP coming out tomorrow. It is available on Pirates Press Records’ webstore.

The video spotlights the pervasive homeless issue that both the band’s hometown of Seattle and the country has.

Frontman and guitarist Aaron Rev, who also directed the video, said “With the video I wanted to attempt to plea to anyone watching to think twice before judging someone who lives on the streets, and maybe lend a hand when you’d normally just walk by.”

According to The Seattle Times, the pandemic has only exacerbated the homeless crisis in Seattle and Washington State. Over 20,000 people are homeless in Washington. Seattle has the third highest homeless population in the country among metro cities (only behind New York City and Los Angeles) while also being the home for large corporations like Amazon, Microsoft, and Starbucks.

“The song was written about the epidemic of homelessness sweeping the nation, and the how those people are viewed and treated by the well to do in our society. There’s a severe lack of empathy from people who are well off towards people who have befallen on hard times,” adds Rev.

“Lunatics” is the follow-up to the band’s recently released 7” “Know Who You Are” and their previous full-length “Under Tension.” For “Lunatics,” The Drowns once again got back into the studio with producer Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys, The Bouncing Souls) to re-capture the magic they created for “Under Tension.”

The EP showcases incredible growth in The Drowns’ songwriting – revealing an array of influences the band has not showcased in their prior releases.

For example, “Tokyo Red Alert” is based on an audio diary of when the band was caught in Typhoon Hagibis while staying in Tokyo. “She’s The Knife” is a song Rev wrote for his wife after she got off a 12-hour nursing shift and got cat-called on her way home.

The band will be supporting the release of “Lunatics” with tours across the U.S. and Europe throughout the rest of the year!
