Get A Grip – United Fight EP 12” (Criminal Records)

Today, I would like to introduce a powerful hardcore punk quartet that keeps spinning on my record player for weeks. Get A Grip comes from Tucson, Arizona, and this interesting outlet showcases more than the same old hardcore maneuvers on their recordings. Since their formation, the group released a couple of releases, such as the debut demo cassette, Promo Tape 2015, a split 7″ release with Bedlam, 2018 cassette EP, Running Out Of Time 7″, and Promo Tape 2020. Get A Grip announced a United Fight 12″ EP sometime on August 20 by publishing a digital single named Let It Go. Approximately a month after the announcement, United Fight was published by Criminal Records.

United Fight includes four energetic hardcore numbers, plus the beforementioned single Let It Go. Get A Grip showcases their version of hardcore punk, which might sound like something you heard a thousand times before, but there’s more than meets the eyes. The group articulates through powerful riffages that lean towards old school hardcore. Still, you may stumble upon some crossover thrash technicalities or some other orchestrations, which are transmitting some American streetpunk vibes. The presence of crossover thrash instrumentations is perhaps the most notable one because of the fast palm-muted chord progressions or tremendous guitar solos. Nevertheless, the group measures perfect dosages of each ingredient, so these additions are serving as necessary accentuations.

Perhaps Get A Grip derives their sound from eighties hardcore punk music, late-eighties crossover thrash, or streetpunk, but the group also includes some contemporary instrumentations within these compositions. Besides all these hearable building blocks of their music, you may hear how the modern hardcore scene affected their writing, composing, and arranging. These song structures and arrangments are nearly the same as in any other band you encountered along the way, but there’s something about Get A Grip that keeps them fresh and unique. No matter if we’re talking about very precise rhythmical acrobatics and massive basslines or ferocious guitars and threatening vocals, you’ll hear nothing but sheer aggression and intense dynamics that are pleasing your listening apparatus.

United Fight will be a perfect choice if you’re into some dynamic and exceptionally performed hardcore punk music with many twists and turns included along the way. United Fight comes on a single-sided vinyl record, released by Criminal Records. Contact the band for more detailed info about ordering.
