Minus Delta Vee – Eat Death Alive CS (Music ADD)

Minus Delta Vee is an intense hardcore punk duo from Salem, Massachusets consisting of Rob Carmichael (vocals, guitars, bass), and Marc Beaudette (drums). Even though Minus Delta Vee is a relatively new project, both musicians are pretty much active on the local scene for decades. Rob Carmichael is known for his acoustic solo outlet, but also for his involvement in groups such as Growlers and Destroy Babylon. Marc Beaudette is a renowned visual artist but also a full-time musician who performs with bands like Destroy Babylon, Growlers, Disasterpeace, Flying Vipers, and The Macrotones. He also worked on artworks and visual identities for a vast portion of artists, bands, and projects.

Eat Death Alive represents a debut material by Minus Delta Vee, which carries five thoughtfully arranged compositions. This characteristic duo goes deep into the foundations of underground music by examining classic hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, post-hardcore, stoner rock, grunge, rock, and binding them all together into a harmonious combination of uncompromising power and addictive orchestrations. The predominant elements of hardcore punk music are certainly the most notable ones throughout the entire recording, but the other genres are equally hearable through various decorations, accentuations, and articulations. Minus Delta Vee somehow managed to stack up everything they felt necessary into these five numbers that are bursting with precise musicianship and intense dynamics. Because of these maneuvers, their music is nearly incomparable with groups who are practicing similar genres.

Of course, you may hear some similarities with renowned groups, but Minus Delta Vee are minding their own business and keeping at their pace. Guitars are bursting with precise movements, mainly comprised of the robust hardcore punk guitar shreds, highlighted with accentuations characteristic for modern melodic hardcore, post-hardcore, sludge metal, stoner rock, and dub. Some of these movements are including delay, echo, or reverb, which are also the characteristics of the beforementioned genres. The bass guitar provides another layer of colossal low-end tones through a full-specter of cleverly designed semi-distorted basslines. Excellent drumming performance includes an extensive collection of technically demanding rhythmical sequences, empowered by continuous splashing over the cymbals. Still, there’s enough room for exquisite accentuations and drum fills, which are adding another dosage of aggression to the overall listening experience.

This recording unquestionably deserves your full attention if you’re into technically demanding hardcore punk sound, empowered by bright ideas and thoughtful arrangements. Everything sounds well-planned and skillfully performed to perfection, so you will be blown away by their sense of composing, melodies, and dynamics. Eat Death Alive comes on a cassette limited to only 50 copies, but there’s still time to grasp your copy. The tape comes with subtly mystic cover artwork, comprised of three levitating triangles that are shining on peculiar sides. Their glow symbolizes the acronym for the Minus Delta Vee. The background includes a dark landscape that goes perfectly with the rest of the cover art. Inlay carries the lyrics, while the spine consists of a tracklist and all the necessary info about the label. This tape is available at Bandcamp and by Music ADD, a record label/platform for all their recordings and artworks, so make sure to visit their website.
